Humans are social beings. So to live in a society, people have to carry family identity. The family is the oldest organization. This organization is usually based on the sexual relations of the husband and wife and maintains its existence through the production and rearing of children.

According to Robert Morrison MacIver, “Family is a group defined by a sex relationship sufficiently precise and enduring to provide for the procreation and upbringing of children”

According to M. F. Nimcoff, “Family is a more or less durable association of husband and wife with or without children”

Eliot and Merrill define, “Family is the biological social unit composed of husband, wife, and children”

According to The Australian Bureau of Statistics, “Two or more persons, one of whom is at least 15 years of age, who are related by blood, marriage (registered or de facto), adoption, step or fostering, and who are usually resident in the same household”

The general concept of family:

• The family generally refers to a group of people who live together and have a direct and cordial relationship.
• A family is a social group bound by marriage, blood relations, and kinship. The family is a basic social organization with a very close, sincere, and face-to-face relationship. Where there is no place for a person outside the family.
• However, through adoption, a person outside the family is included in the family. Then that person is no longer a member of another family, he becomes a member of that family.
• There is constant interaction between family members. Every family has its own ideals, traditions, and customs which the members of that family maintain, nurture, and control their behavior accordingly.

Advantages and disadvantages of single family

Advantages:

1. In a single-family, you can make your own decisions.
2. Costs in a single-family are lower all the time.
3. Single-family quarrels are less hateful.
4. The nutritional value of all the members of a single-family can be achieved properly.

Disadvantages:

1. People from single families often suffer from depression because their lives are surrounded by loneliness.
2. Children raised in a single-family do not properly understand social bonds.

Advantages and disadvantages of joint family:

Advantages:

1. Being in a joint family, we can always help and enjoy each other.
2. As a result of having a joint family, the children of the family grow up with proper education.
3. Having a joint family can solve all the problems together.

Disadvantages:

1. Having a lot of people together in a joint family makes quarrels more common.
2. There is always a problem with the distribution of wealth in the joint family.
3. Joint family decisions can never be made alone.
